Diffusiophoresis in a near-critical binary fluid mixture

چکیده
We consider placing a rigid spherical particle into binary fluid mixture in the homogeneous phase near demixing critical point. The surface is assumed to have short-range interaction with each component and attract one more than other. Owing large osmotic susceptibility, adsorption layer, where preferred concentrated, can be of significant thickness. This causes motion under an imposed composition gradient. Thus, diffusiophoresis emerges from mechanism which has not been considered so far. calculate how mobility depends on temperature size.

Critical End Point Behaviour in a Binary Fluid Mixture
We consider the liquid-gas phase boundary in a binary fluid mixture near its critical end point. Using general scaling arguments we show that the diameter of the liquid-gas coexistence curve exhibits singular behaviour as the critical end point is approached. This prediction is tested by means of extensive Monte-Carlo simulations of a symmetrical Lennard-Jones binary mixture within the grand ca...
متن کاملSelf-Diffusiophoresis of Janus Particles in Near-Critical Mixtures.
We theoretically study the self-propulsion of a laser-heated Janus particle in a near-critical water-lutidine mixture, and we relate its velocity v_{p} and squirmer parameter β to the wetting properties of its two hemispheres. For nonionic surface forces, the particle moves the active cap at the front, whereas a charged hydrophilic cap leads to backward motion, in agreement with the experiment....
متن کاملCritical Fluctuations of a Confined Binary Mixture
Exploiting the mapping between a binary mixture and the Ising model we have analyzed the critical fluctuations by means of the density-matrix renormalization group technique. The calculations have been carried out for a two-dimensional Ising strip subject to equally strong surface fields. It was found that the critical Casimir force has significantly different behavior on opposite sides of the ...

متن کاملSolvation effects in near-critical binary mixtures.
A Ginzburg-Landau theory is presented to investigate solvation effects in near-critical polar fluid binary mixtures. Concentration dependence of the dielectric constant gives rise to a shell region around a charged particle within which solvation occurs preferentially. As the critical point is approached, the concentration has a long-range Ornstein-Zernike tail representing strong critical elec...
